Seminar for East Lothian Visual Artists and Craft Makers

Friday 26 April 5.30pm – 8pm. Star Room, John Gray Centre, Haddington

East Lothian Council is inviting East Lothian based visual artists and craft makers to attend this informative seminar.

East Lothian is an area where many artists live and work. As part of its Cultural Strategy, East Lothian Council is committed to supporting artists as major contributors to the cultural life of East Lothian.

The East Lothian Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards are managed by East Lothian Council’s Arts Service in partnership with Creative Scotland.  Since 2008, 30 locally based artists and makers have received an award to develop their practice.

Awards of up to £1,500 are available.

Speakers at the seminar will include Stephen Palmer, Development Officer at Creative Scotland, Arabella Harvey, Director of Peter Potter Gallery and Graeme Todd from Polarcap. Timescales and details for the 2013/14 awards will be discussed.

Some of the artists and makers who are currently exhibiting their work in the retrospective exhibition at the John Gray Centre will also talk about the work they undertook during the period of their visual artist and craft makers awards.

Drinks will be served from 5.30pm with ample opportunity for networking.

The Dunbar Speakeasy 18th April

April 18, 2013
7:00 pmto9:00 pm

THE DUNBAR SPEAKEASY

A series of monthly talks on all aspects of the arts from an exciting line-up of artists, musicians, crafts people, writers, dancers, film-makers, curators, thinkers, arts therapists and commissioners.

Come and join us for a lively presentation followed by a drink and some relaxed conversation at The Dunbar Speakeasy, in the Community Room of Dunbar Townhouse Museum on Dunbar High Street.

Thursday 18th April 7-9pm. CREATIVE CURATING. Arabella Harvey is the Director of The Peter Potter Gallery in Haddington. Before that she was Visual Arts Programmer for East Ayrshire, including the Dick Institute. Growing up in an artist’s household, Arabella went on to develop her own arts practice, which led to her creative take on curating the work of others. She applies the same artistic principles to all she does, including her current involvement in beef farming. This talk promises to be a fascinating insight into the creative process, particularly in relation to curatorial innovation and creating adventurous programmes for local gallery spaces.

Like to give a talk? Contact Jonathan Wood on 01368 850 712.

A DUNBAR ARTS TRUST VENTURE.
